European extremely large telescope (E-ELT)

The Design and construction of the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT), the largest optical telescope in the world, represents a challenge for complexity, extreme precision required and the context in which it is being built, the Chilean desert.

The E-ELT is the most important project approved by ESO. The dimensions are extremely large for this type of structures with a diameter of 115 m and an overall height of 80m. The E-ELT project is characterized by the most high design standard. The complete project is developed in a BIM (Building Information Modelling) environment.
INEA has been appointed by Astaldi for the preliminary design and the final design of the E-ELT foundations and the design of all the civil works related to E-ELT.

Main Client: European Southern Observatory (ESO)
Contractor: Consortium ACe (Astaldi S.p.A., Cimolai S.p.A. and EIE Group S.r.l.)
Designer: EIE-Group
Consultant for Civil Work: INEA
